As part of a series of 13 interviews, Kip spoke about his work with internationally acclaimed artist, Alan Davie RA CBE. Influence on his work over the years include Paul Klee, American Abstract Expressionism, Zen Buddhism and Indian mythology. The work of Davie has a distinctive wildness and explosive energy, and in this interview we hear a little about the artist’s approach to collaboration with Kip. With a sense of routine and experience in the precision of lithograph, Davie then applied his freestyle approach - no doubt a playfullness also explored in his music. It is noted in past lectures given by Davie that this sensitivity to improvisation played an important role in his artistic practice. Kip’s understanding of the many elements and influences of an artist’s mind can explain what makes each collaboration so successful.
